Walter V-drive Rv-26d Manual

I'm doing the service on my Walter V-drive in an LSV and have noticed for some time that there is a small amount of oil seeping. It looks to be coming from around the bottom sump cover. I read on another site where the problem seems to be fairly common. The solution they used was to remove the bottom cover and reseal with form-a-gasket. Anyone done this on a Bu. I'm looking at my boat and the clearance looks kinda tight and I don't want to start something that's gonna become the proverbial can of worms if you know what I mean. Any thoughts?

I've already fixed a leak on my tranny for which I had to pull the v-drive to fix it. It wasn't that bad. But now my damn v-drive is leaking too so I need to pull it again.

To pull it off the easiest way you'll need an engine hoist and a few other shop tools. With the engine hoist supporting the weight of the back of the engine where the bell housing is unbolt the mounting screws on each side then tilt up the engine enough to clear the gas tank. Doing it this way will save you a lot of time instead of pulling the gas tank and your rear seats which you don't need to do. Just remember before doing anything unbolt the shaft to the v-drive and a few hoses and what not. Lister serial number lookup. Label everything and bag all screws and mark the bag where the bolts came from and it doesn't hurt to take a lot of pics so you can go back to something if you need too. It shouldn't take you more than 2hrs to pull it.

Pm me if you want more help Edited May 16, 2007 by vlx wakesetter. I don't believe my v-drive has a bottom cover that I can remember.

There is one on the tranny at the bottom and is a plate with two bolts where a filter is for the tranny fluid. Are you sure it's not that.

I'm pretty sure that the v-drive doesn't have a plate and I don't know where it's leaking that's why I'm going to just pull it and besides by pulling it you have a lot more room to work with and simple green the v-drive and isolate where exactly the leak is coming from. I would rather not have oil in the bottom of my bilge from removing something. I know it sounds like a lot of work but it's really not, just stare at it for 20 minutes looking it over and see what's involved and pull it. PM me and I'll talk with you on the phone with more info if you want.
